Derrald Juilfs, age 75, of LaSalle, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James, MN.
Graveside services will be 1:00pm, Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Union Cemetery in Pomeroy, Iowa with Pastor Susan Juilfs officiating. A lunch and fellowship will follow at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pomeroy.
Derrald Richard Juilfs, known to his friends as Butch, was born on June 16, 1942 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of George and Maria (Frerichs) Juilfs. Derrald grew up in the Pomeroy area where he attended school, graduating from Pomeroy High School in 1960. He then attended Railroad Communications School in Kansas City, MO. He worked for the Illinois Central Railroad from 1962 until 1964. He married Donna Botten on September 14, 1963, the couple later divorced. They moved to LaSalle in 1964, working for Clifford Botten until 1968 when he began working at LaSalle Farmers Grain. He worked there until his retirement in 2006. His hobbies included singing and playing guitar with his sister when he was a young man and later performing as a square dance caller for the Swinging Saints. He passed his love of music to his kids - a lifelong gift.
Derrald is survived by his children; Darren (Cathy) Juilfs, Dawn (Jeff) Kohrt, Dace (Tracy) Juilfs, Deland (Paulette) Juilfs, Deirdra (Joel) Vos, grandchildren; Amber, Brittany, David Juilfs, Amber (Jake) Chisholm, Mercedes, Johanna, Samantha, George Juilfs, Aleysha, Alexis, Arianna, Axel Vos, Emma Kohrt and great-grandson Vincent Chisholm, and a sister Rose Kies. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Delphine Lange.
