Obituary of Florence Ennis
Florence Ennis was born to Charles and Anna (Pufahl) Schroeder on October 17, 1914. She grew up on the family farm in Germantown Township where she also attended school. Florence loved learning, but her family’s finances prevented her from going on to high school in Jeffers. For the next four years Florence worked very hard doing tasks for her neighbors. Finally, after four years her dream came true, she graduated from Jeffers High School. She played on the girls’ basketball team while attending school. One day a couple of young Irishmen by the names of Ennis and Kelly came into her workplace and asked if she’d be interested in a job in Comfrey. She was interested and took the job as a waitress at their restuarant. Steven Ennis was one of those men and on February 15, 1938 the couple was married. Steve died on January 23, 1970 at the age of 65. For 30 plus years, Florence was employed by the Comfrey School as a cook. She loved being around the students. Florence loved to be on the move and either biked or walked around until she was into her 90’s. She was a past member of Salem Lutheran Church and currently New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey.
Florence died on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Brickstone Manor in Comfrey at the age of 102.
