Mary Ann (Hengel) Kotten was born on April 4, 1938 on a farm outside of Wanda, MN, the daughter of George and Anna (Schroeder) Hengel. She attended St. Anne's Catholic School in Wabasso. Mary Ann worked at Del Monte until her marriage to Sylvester "Vesty" Kotten on November 27, 1956 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After their marriage, Vesty and Mary Ann operated a dairy farm. Mary Ann resided at the Sleepy Eye Care Center since November of 2016. She enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing and playing sheephead. Mary Ann also spent her time listening to gospel and country music, especially by Ricky Van Shelton, volunteering at church and following the weather.
Mary Ann Kotten age 78, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on Monday, February 13, 2017, at Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Mary Ann is survived by her children, Dianne (Brian) Raddatz of Redwood Falls, Dorinda (Dale) Roiger of Springfield, James (Diane) of Sleepy Eye, Ronald of North Mankato, David (Christine) of Sleepy Eye, Joseph (Stacy) of Essig, Andy (Christina) of Lakeville and Jacob of Sleepy Eye; 23 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren; great-granddaughter, Nola Kotten; brother, Ray Hengel of Sleepy Eye and sister-in-law, Josie Hengel of Mesa, AZ. She was preceded in death by parents, husband, Vesty in 2015, grandson, Samuel Ronald Kotten, brothers, Leo, Christy and Jerome Hengel, sisters, Agnes Grausam and Isabelle Hoffmann.
