Obituary of Mavis Nommensen

Mavis Nommensen passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James.

Mavis Jean Hasse was born in Morgan, Minnesota on September 16, 1937, the daughter of Paul and Meta (Valentin) Hasse.  She grew up in the Vesta area, attended school in Echo and graduated from high school in Redwood Falls.  On April 27, 1957, Mavis was united in marriage to Walter Nommensen.  The couple made their home in Vesta before moving to St. James in 1966.   Mavis did home day care for many years.  She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid.  She enjoyed sewing, and spending time with her family and pets.

  
She is survived by her children ; Kevin (Brenda) Nommensen of St. James, Lorin (Patti) Nommensen of St. James, Brian Nommensen of St. James, four grandchildren Katie Elzenga of Blue Earth, Miranda (Jeremiah) Rayo of St. James, Carissa (Justin) Elzenga of St. James, Austin Nommensen of St. James, two great grandchildren Alivia Rayo and Tate Elzenga, sisters Margie (William) Danckwart  of Lake City, MN, Janice Johnson and special friend Wes of Brooks, MN ,and special friend Donald Spitzner of St. James.  She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. 

 
Mavis had a heart of gold and throughout her lifetime helped many people.  She will be dearly missed.
