Obituary of Fern Wendland
Fern (Brinkman) Wendland (87) of Springfield passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018 at St John’s Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Fern Marion Brinkman was born November 8, 1930 in Ruttland Township, Trimont, Minnesota to Herman and Alma (Bischoff) Brinkman. She was baptized on December 24, 1930 in Trimont and confirmed in Sherburn, Minnesota. She began school in Welcome, Minnesota and transferred to Sherburn Public School in the third grade where she graduated from high school. Fern worked for 10 years in Mankato, Minnesota as a personal aide and nanny. On February 12, 1961 she married the dude from Dotson, Marvin Wendland at St John Lutheran Church in Sherburn, Minnesota. They lived on the Wendland Farm outside of Dotson where she helped milk cows, work the land and raised 4 children. The couple retired in 1993 and moved to a home in Springfield. Fern was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield, Minnesota and was an active member of Rebekah Circle where she enjoyed quilting and visiting residents at the local nursing home.
She is survived by her husband Marvin Wendland of Springfield, her children Terri (Terry) Carson of Bradley, SD, Dawn (Stuart) Walker of Rantoul, IL, and Daniel (Jennifer) Wendland of Luverne, MN; daughter-in-law Rebecca Wendland of Arlington, SD; grandchildren Robert Wendland, Kathryn Klumb, Brodrick Wendland, Pfc Andrew Walker, Simon Walker, Jonas Walker, Emily Wendland, Courtney Wendland, Harley Wendland;two great-grandchildren Addison and Caleb Klumb; sister Arlene George of Sherburn; and brothers Merle Brinkman of Fairmont and Duane Brinkman of Hutchinson. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, brother Marvin Brinkman and his wife Alta, brother Sylvan Brinkman and his wife Delores, sister Sylvia Sheppard and her husband Harold, brother-in-law Leland George, son Keith Wendland.
