Lavonn “Tip” Elvis Kling was born on July 10, 1924, in Chippewa County, the son of Edward and Lydia (Ost) Kling. Tip was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo, MN. He attended country school and helped on the family farm and also helped his uncle with custom swathing and combining when he was younger. He farmed all his adult life and also drove truck for road construction for twenty years. On December 27, 1975, Tip was united in marriage to Darlene Halvorson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lamberton. He enjoyed playing cards - Pinochle, Whisk, and Poker, playing softball with his children and neighbor children in the evening after doing chores, watching the MN Twins, Vikings, and Timberwolves, fishing including a family fishing trip the past 13 years to Devils Lake, ND, traveling to Las Vegas to help with the Polka Fest for 19 years, and dancing, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Tip died on Monday, July 27, 2015 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato at the age of 91 years. He is survived by his wife Darlene of Lamberton; children - Verlyn (Barbara) Kling of Granite Falls, MN, Diana (Robert) Lange of Kimball, MN, Carol (Wilbur) Norman of Park Rapids, MN, Steven (Karen) Kling of Montevideo, MN, and Scott (Victoria) Kling of Montevideo, MN; step-children - John (Deb) Steinle of Brewster, MN, Tom (Mary) Steinle of Rosemont, MN, and Mark (Julie) Steinle of Spirit Lake, IA; step-son-in-law Dale Petersen of Lamberton; 29 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. Tip was preceded in death by his parents; step-children - Vicki Petersen and Joseph Steinle.
