Pete Bierl, age 73, of Wanda, MN died on August 10, 2020, at Edgemont Place Assisted Living in Blaine, MN. A private family Memorial Mass will be held on Friday. If you would like to show your support for the family, you are invited to observe the procession as we drive from St. Mathias Catholic Church through down town Wanda on our way to St. Mathias Cemetery. This procession will take place on Friday, August 14, 2020 at approximately 11:15 - 11:30 am. Military Honors will be performed outside of the Legion Hall in Wanda during the procession. Please use social distancing as standing along the route or stay in your car. Please do not follow the procession to the cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Wanda Legion, St. Mathias Cemetery Fund, or Alzheimer's Association Peter Bierl was born on December 18, 1946, at the Redwood Falls Hospital to Joe and Mary (Borte) Bierl. He was baptized at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda, and attended St. Mathias Catholic School in Wanda through 8th grade. After graduating from Wabasso Public School in 1964, he began work at the Wanda State Bank. In 1966 he was drafted, and served in the Army in the Vietnam War until 1968. After his military service, he returned to work at the Wanda State Bank. On June 16, 1984, Peter married Susan Altermatt at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda. Peter retired from the Wanda State Bank as a Loan Officer and Vice President in 2009, after 45 years of banking. Peter spent countless hours volunteering in the Wanda community and at St. Mathias. He served on the Wanda Fire Department, was an American Legion member, belonging to the Wanda Legion Post 385, serving as manager and treasurer, and a VFW member. He managed, maintained, fundraised and coached for the Wanda Softball Association. He was a member of the Wanda mowing bee, a member and treasurer of the St. Isidore Court of Catholic Order of Foresters. He often was seen driving around Wanda in his black 1949 Ford F-1 “work” truck. Peter loved playing or watching baseball and softball, whether he was on the field, watching his kids play, watching a Twins game or touring to see Major League stadiums. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and watching Golden Gopher Basketball. Peter is survived by his wife of 36 years, Susan of Shoreview, MN, children Mariah (Chad) Norberg of Minneapolis, MN, and Jacob (special friend Allison VanDerWal) of Wanda, MN, grandson Lucas Peter Norberg, and siblings - Joan Baumann, Roland (Darlene) Bierl, Carol Ann Jones, Clarice (Mike) Wielinski and many nieces and nephews. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Lorena Jenniges, Markie Bierl and Larry Bierl, and brothers-in-law Romuald Baumann, Roman Jenniges and Dick Jones. .
