Duane "Swede" Paulson age 84, of Saint James, MN died on November 4, 2021, at Mayo Clinic Health System - La Crosse, WI. Visitation will be on Monday, November 15, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Sturm Funeral Home, St. James Chapel and will continue on Tuesday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the First Lutheran Church, St. James. Funeral Service will be held at the First Lutheran Church, St. James, on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 11:00 am. The clergy will be Rev. Matthew Seegert. Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, St. James in St. James with military honors provided by the St. James Veterans Honor Guard. Duane Theodore Paulson, known by his friends as Swede, was born April 17, 1937 in Hanska, MN, the son of Theodore and Lillian Paulson. He served in the military from 1955-1957. Swede married Bonnie Wolters on October 24, 1959 in Mankato. The couple made their home in St. James where Swede worked as a machinist. He belonged to the Kato Cycle Club, St. James American Legion and St. James Eagles Club. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing and spending time with his family. Swede is survived by his children Tammy Olson of St. James, Tim (Sue) Paulson of Silver Bay, Lynette (Marc) Jessee of Mankato, 9 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 8 step-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, brother Red (Eileen) Paulson, sister Marlene Angel, numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by wife, parents, son Terry, son-in-law Denny Kinnetz, brothers Lorenzo, Marlow, Phil, JeRay and Vernon.
