Obituary of Edward John Tauer
Edward John Tauer was born February 4, 1928, in Springfield, MN to Edward A. and Grace M. (Ryan) Tauer. He attended St. Raphael's Catholic School and graduated from Springfield High School in 1946. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and returned to Springfield and the family business, Tauer's Super Valu, following his honorable discharge. Ed was united in marriage to MaryAnn Schumacher on August 9, 1954, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Comfrey. Ed was a strong supporter of the Springfield Community and served on the hospital board, State Bank of Springfield Board of Directors, as president of the Chamber of Commerce, Past Commander of the Springfield American Legion, and was a founding member of the Red Rock Ducks Unlimited Chapter and the Springfield Historical Society. He was equally supportive of St. Raphael's Catholic Church where he served as a church usher, St. Raphael's School Board, the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the St. Boniface Society. Ed received the Bishop's Medal of Honor for all of his years of service to the church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the 4th of July, and attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Ed especially enjoyed spending time at their lake home on Lake Belle Taine.
He is survived by wife Mary Ann of Springfield; sons- Tim (Barbara) Tauer of Springfield, Paul (Pam) Tauer of Springfield, George (Michelle) Tauer of Springfield, Dan (Beth) Tauer of Maple Grove, and Bill (Shelly) Tauer of Tracy; daughters- Susan (Calvin) Wells, Marie (Dennis) Amsden, Ann (Mike) Rothmeier, and Amy (Randy) Baier, all of Springfield; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and sisters- Jean Lamm of Chaska, and Kathryn Bruckbauer of Waconia. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Joan Schumann; and great-granddaughter Katrina Wells.
