Obituary of Gladys Scurr

Gladys Lorraine Scurr, 91, departed this earth to enjoy life everlasting with her Lord and Savior on May 14, 2018. Gladys was born August 29, 1926 to Fred and Aganetha (Nettie) Steinhauser. She graduated from Mt. Lake Public School in 1944. She was baptized on May 28, 1944 at Bethel Mennonite Church in Mt. Lake, MN. When she moved to Windom, MN, she joined the American Lutheran Church in 1960 and is still a member there today. After graduation, Gladys attended Minneapolis Business School and completed a course in Junior Accounting. From there, she worked for Emma Sammoss, County Superintendent of Schools in Windom. After the death of her mother in 1950, she came home to care for her father and brother Harold. After her brother graduated, she found employment at the Natural Gas Company of Mt. Lake and Windom. On November 4, 1961 Gladys was married to John E. Scurr of Bingham Lake, MN. They made their home on a farm north of Bingham Lake. They first adopted a son Douglas and later a daughter Kimberly. In 1973 they moved to a farmstead south of Mt. Lake. In 1979 she started work at the Good Samaritan Village of Mt. Lake in the housekeeping and dietary departments for 13 years. She also enjoyed her volunteer jobs. When Gladys moved to the Laker Apartments in 1996, she continued her volunteer work assisting others with daily routines. Her husband John, passed away in November 1995. Her family was important and she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s programs at school and Sunday school.

She leaves to mourn her children, Doug (Theresa) Scurr of Rosemount, MN and Kimberly Sellnow of Groveland FL; her grandchildren, Dalton and Delaney Scurr, Jessica (Harmon) Krause and Rebecca Sellnow; one great-grandchild, McKinzie Krause; brother, Harold (Estella) Steinhauser; cousin, Paul Comnick and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; her husband John; brothers Carl and wife Fran, Ervin and wife Bonnie and Fred Steinhauser; two nephews Robert and Jon Steinhauser and niece Patricia Steinhauser.
