Obituary of Mildred Bellig
Mildred Theresa Bellig was born October 10, 1921, in Wabasso, MN to Wenzel and Margaret (Rothmeier) Johannek. She attended country school District #75, St. Anne's Catholic School, and graduated from Wabasso High School in 1940. Millie was married on August 8, 1943, in San Rafael, CA to Elmer 'Bud' Bellig, who was then a member of the Marine Corps. Millie worked at Bell Telephone Company as an operator for 3 1/2 years - first in San Rafael, then San Diego before returning to Minnesota to work in Mankato when her husband was sent to active duty. It was during this time that Millie was on duty at the telephone office when word came that World War II had ended and she had the privelege of seeing the board light up as everyone wanted to share the good news. The couple moved to Lamberton after Bud's return from the war. She was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Millie was a member of the Lamberton Reading Club for over 60 years, a Girl Scout leader, volunteered at Valley View Manor, and served on the Library Board. She enjoyed photography, bridge, puzzles, reading and writing. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family at Lake Florida near Spicer.
