Obituary of George Munson
George Munson of St. James passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James.
George Robert Munson was born January 9, 1934 at St. James, MN to Esther (Lee) and Henning Munson. He graduated from 8th grade from District #16 in Riverdale Township and St. James High School in 1952, always active in 4-H, athletics and church. He served in the United States Army at Fort Bliss, Texas and 93rd Battalion, Radar Division at Fairbanks, Alaska September 1954 to September 1956 and was honorably discharged in January 1957. He attended Augsburg College and winter quarters on the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota. He held various offices in Rural Youth. He was an active member of LaSalle Lutheran Church before joining First Lutheran Church in St. James in 1982. He served on the board of directors for the Watonwan Farm Service Company for 27 years. He was President of the Watonwan County Fair board for 7 years. He farmed the home Munson farm in Watonwan County and the home Lee farm in Brown County raising beef cattle and crops. He Married Judith Olson October 25, 1969 at Mission Hill, South Dakota. They had one daughter, Linda Lea.
George is survived by his wife of St. James, brother Howard of LaCrescent, sister Katherine Howard of Madelia, sister Marilyn Warling of Clive, Iowa., cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter, parents, all brothers-in-law and niece Sylvia Munson. Blessed be his memory. George died peacefully on All Saints Day, Thursday, November 1, 2018 at, Good Samaritan Society Pleasant View at St. James, MN.
