Obituary of Howard Dale Fredrikson
Howard Dale Fredrikson was born in St. James August 8, 1931 to Sig and Esther (Jones) Fredrikson. He was baptized and confirmed at Long Lake Church. He attended District 21 and 8 grade schools and graduated from St. James High School in 1950. Howard served in the Army from 1951-53 and was a tank Sergeant in the Korean War until he was wounded. Upon his discharge, he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis and then Hanson Mechanical Trade School in Fargo, ND where he received a diploma for diesel mechanics. On June 10, 1955 he was united in marriage to Annette Sandberg at Zion Lutheran Church. From 1954-1997 Howard was self-employed. First, he spread fertilizer. In the 1960’s, he started Fredrikson Excavating and Gravel. He also bladed roads for Nelson Township for 5 years after his retirement. He served on several boards at both First Lutheran and Hosanna Lutheran churches. Howard’s sense of humor and twinkle in his eye will be fondly cherished by his family.
Howard Dale Fredrikson age 87, of St. James, MN died peacefully on March 13, 2019, at his home.
Howard is survived by his wife, Annette of St. James; daughter Dr. Lorna (Chris) Fredrikson Dean of Fountain Hills, AZ and their children Matthew and Nicole; son Gary (Suzanne) Fredrikson of Vancouver, WA and their children Dan (Liz) and Steven; daughter Sandy (Mark) Flohrs of St. James and their children Megan (Chris Knudson) and Devon. He is also survived by great-grandson Robert Knudson of St. James; brother Glenn (Joan) Fredrikson of Mesa, AZ, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Janet (Joe) McMahon of Chicago, IL and Lois (George) Miest of St. James.
