Obituary of Arlene Widener

Arlene Eudelle Widener was born April 7, 1926 in Amherst, SD to Roy and Jeanette (Symens) Sudenga.  She grew up in the Fulda and Pipestone area and graduated from Pipestone High School in 1944.  On November 17, 1944, she married Kenneth Widener at the Presbyterian Church in Holland, MN.  She worked in the administration office at the Pipestone Indian School for several years while her husband was in the service.  Upon his return, they farmed for 7 years near Holland and moved to Lamberton in 1955, where they owned and operated the Gamble Hardware Store and Ken's Softwater Service.  She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and served in many of its organizations and also was involved in various community activities.  She enjoyed being a homemaker, visiting their children, working in her flower gardens, traveling, playing bridge, ballroom dancing, and their winters in Texas and Arizona. After Ken's death in 2013, Arlene moved to Coeur d'Alene, ID to be near Darla and Randy.  She spent the last 5 years of her life there at a Memory Care Facility. While she was there, she enjoyed shopping, car rides, pontoon rides, spending time with family and grandkids. And of course pie at Shari's.
