He returned to Mountain Lake to work as a boiler operator at Land O’Lakes and then as a die caster at Toro. One spring afternoon, he met Brenda Dubbels, a new teacher in town, while he tended his garden in the backyard of his parents’ rental where she resided. They married on August 13, 1983, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Northfield, Minnesota. Also, competing at the collegiate level at MSU, he was a member of a national qualifying cross country team. Known for his quick-wit, keen sense of humor, and being fashionably late, Curt found enjoyment in enthusiastically following his children’s sports careers (especially track), spending time with his beloved grandchildren, gardening, raising chickens, hunting, fishing, varied building projects that didn’t always get finished, and in recent years, watching Gunsmoke and other old western shows. He carried on the tradition of cooking, that ran in his family, specializing in his dad’s oven-baked chicken and his special chocolate chip cookies.
