Obituary of Dorothy Nazarenus

Dorothy Delores Nazarenus of Sleepy Eye, 93, peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 11, 1928, in Germantown Township, Cottonwood County,MN to Otto and Alice (Albrecht) Huebert. She grew up on the family farm south of Sanborn and loved to share stories of her childhood. At the age of 18, Dorothy moved to Sleepy Eye and found work at the Koffee Cup Café. While attending a dance with her girlfriends, she met a handsome young man and that was the beginning of 73 years together. On July 25, 1948, she was united in marriage to Donald A. Nazarenus. She was a talented homemaker and raised a family of 8 children. She loved her family unconditionally. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She always looked forward to visits from family. She was an extraordinary woman who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life from birds to flowers to feeding the rabbits. She used her artistic abilities to paint, journal, draw, make cards, and sew. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed many dolls for the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum. She loved to invent in the kitchen, and usually had something freshly baked from the oven to offer. Her family had the good fortune of tasting all those creations. Mom had an insatiable passion for garage sale treasures. There is so much more to tell, but space doesn’t allow us to say it all! She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, GFWC Qui Vive Club, Lady Slipper Doll Club, and Study Club.
