The daughter of Oscar and Hazel (Blackstad) Bottem. She attended St. James High School and then Mankato Commercial College. She was united in marriage to Walter Gerald Stevens on September 29, 1951 at Albion Lutheran Church, rural St. James. Betty Stevens enjoyed farm life, including gardening and cooking delicious meals for everyone, especially during planting and harvesting. For relaxation, she watched Hallmark movies, read good books, and sewed. She also had an appreciation of flowers, bird watching, and taking pictures. Betty loved attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s birthday parties bringing her special banana bread. Precious memories of time spent at Spider Lake were treasured being together with her family. During many retirement years, Betty traveled to Arizona and California with Gerald. Her last celebration was their 70th wedding anniversary in September. Betty was truly a woman of strength and faith. She had a kind, sweet, gentle personality even while going through her battle with Parkinson’s disease. Betty will dearly be missed.
