Norma Jean Quiring (Karschnik) was born on August 10th, 1932, to Carl and Lucille (Olson) Karschnik at the farmhouse in Kimball Township, Jackson County that was 10 miles south of Mountain Lake. Norma was baptized at Kimball Lutheran Church on September 4, 1932. She was confirmed at the same church on July 28, 1946. Norma attended a one room country school for 8 years in Jackson County. Then she attended Mountain Lake Public High School where she graduated in the class of 1950.

She met her life partner, Arnold Quiring, in high school. After graduation, the two were united in marriage on January 4, 1951, at Kimball Lutheran Church. This union blessed them with 3 children, Jim, Dale, and Nyla.

Arnold and Norma worked for 11 years for Henry Pankratz before becoming a teacher’s assistant at the Mountain Lake School system. She worked as an Elementary assistant up until her retirement in 1994.

After retirement, Norma did some volunteer work for RSVP, Care and Share, church and attempted to play golf. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school, Alter Guild, Funeral Committee, and sang in the choir.

Besides being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and friend, she was a wonderful baker and cook. Every Saturday, she baked pies, cookies, bread, tea rings and zwieback for family and friends. Dale said he never ate a loaf of boughten bread until he went to college.
